About Hosts:

Phil Andrews, Master Networker has lectured throughout New York State at various colleges and universities. He was the Vice President and Marketing Director of the Haircut Hut franchise for over a decade. He is also featured in a book published by, Mr. Robert H. Adams entitled, 15 years of Minority Business Development. Currently, he is the Public Relations Director for Hempstead Horn Newspaper, African Atlantic Genealogical Association, and 100 Black Men of Long Island. Mr. Andrews is a current member of the Caribbean- American Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Inc., Former Chairman of Public Relations for The United Black Men of Queens, Inc., and member of the New York Association of Black Journalist, National Black Public Relations Society of New York, and Urban League of Long Island Young Professionals.
In October of 1995, Mr. Andrews was presented the Nassau Council of Chambers of Commerce/Roosevelt Chamber of Commerce Small Business Person of the Year Award.
In 1998, he was presented with the Nassau Council of Chambers/West Indian Chamber of Commerce Small Business Person of the Year Award. He has also received a citation from the 18th Assembly District of Long Island New York, Assemblywomen Earlene Hooper Hill. In 2005 Mr. Andrews received a Proclamation for Outstanding Service to New York’s 10th Congressional District presented by Congressman Ed Towns. Mr. Andrews has received Proclamations from former Nassau County Executive Thomas S. Gullotta, and former Town of Hempstead Supervisor Mr. Richard Guardino. In December 2005 Mr. Andrews was inducted into the Caribbean American Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. as a Member Visionary.
Phil has served the community in multiple ways. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Roosevelt Chamber of Commerce, Roosevelt Kiwanis, 100 Black Men of Long Island, and the West Indian Chamber of Commerce as the Public Relation Director. Mr. Andrews currently runs a business network named the “Power Networking Business Seminar Series”. As a certified mentor, he is looking forward to mentoring more young men as well as continuing to work and serve communities.  Mr. Andrews was featured in the NY Report Magazine as one of the Top Networking Organizers in the NYC metropolitian area.

Networking Blind Items 9.16

Networking stories I heard in the past few weeks:

“A colleague of mine started consulting at a nonprofit.  On his first day, he called to introduce me to one of his new associates there because they were planning a talent show.  He knew I had entertainment contacts.  Two of my friends became judges and one of them was allowed to do a comedy bit at the show.  Soon after, that comedian went from friend to client.”

“I was looking to hire salespeople for my company.  I let all my friends know via LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter.  Also had a press release.  A networking buddy of mine posted the release on Digg, which I never use.  A great applicant suddenly appeared and we were off and running.”

Remember, networking is not this complicated science.  You just have to be willing to go out and meet folks, be  willing to make introductions, and be willing to do for others.  Everyday small biz owners and entrepreneurs have similar stories; it’s not just the Donald Trumps and the Warren Buffetts of the world parlaying their connections to make things happen.  They may be the only ones we read about in the mainstream media.
